Singapore – The Mclaren Formula One team has officially secured the 2025 Formula One world constructors' championship, marking a historic achievement for the Woking-based outfit following the Singapore Grand Prix. While Mercedes driver George Russell celebrated a commanding victory at the Marina Bay street circuit, it was Mclaren's consistent performance that sealed the manufacturers' crown with six races still remaining in the season.
The constructors' victory is Mclaren's second in a row and its 10th overall, solidifying its position as the second-most successful team in the sport's history, behind only Ferrari's 16 titles. The triumph ends a 34-year wait for consecutive championships, a feat Mclaren last achieved in 1991. The team secured the title after drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris brought their cars home in the points, giving Mclaren an insurmountable lead in the standings.
On the track, the day belonged to George Russell. The Mercedes driver converted his pole position into his second victory of the season and the fifth of his career. The win served as a moment of redemption for Russell, who crashed out from a podium position at the same circuit in 2023. He finished ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who took third, and Mclaren's Lando Norris, who finished fourth.
The race was held under uniquely challenging conditions, as the FIA declared a "heat hazard" for the first time in Formula One history. Extreme temperatures and humidity prompted mandatory cooling measures to be implemented for the drivers' safety.
While the constructors' title is decided, the battle for the world drivers' championship remains intense, particularly within the Mclaren garage. Oscar Piastri currently leads the standings with 324 points. His teammate, Lando Norris, is in second place with 299 points. With a 25-point gap and six grand prix weekends left, including three sprint races, the title fight is set to go down to the wire. Max Verstappen sits in a distant third with 255 points.
In contrast to Mclaren's success, the 2025 season continues to be a challenging one for Ferrari. The team has yet to claim a victory this year and suffered another difficult race in Singapore, where both Charles Leclerc and his teammate Lewis Hamilton reportedly experienced brake issues. The Scuderia currently trails Mclaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull in the team standings.
As the season enters its final stretch, all eyes will now turn to the fierce intra-team rivalry at Mclaren to see who will emerge as the 2025 Formula One world drivers' champion.
